The LORD your God is in your midst

The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Here we are again. About five minutes ago (or so it seems) we were celebrating and honoring the young men and women who were the class of 2018. After what feels like just a few wakeups, we are today celebrating and honoring the young men and women who are the class of 2019. I guess that next week (or so it seems) we will be doing the same with the class of 2020. For all of us, but for our graduates in particular, please note what Zephaniah wrote above.

“The Lord your God is in your midst.” Always. God does not abandon his people. He is near.

“[He is] a mighty one who will save.” Always. We are not extricated from every dilemma we face in life—far from it. But God deals with us with grace and mercy.

“He will rejoice over you with gladness.” Our God loves us beyond comprehension. He always has, and he always will.

“He will quiet you by his love.” Always. Life will pick up speed and, at least from time to time, threaten to overwhelm. In God’s love we have rest.

“He will exult over you with loud singing.” Not only does God delight so much in his creation that he sings over it, but he sings LOUDLY over it. Whenever you need a lift, remember that God is raising his voice in song because of us.
