Children’s Tutoring Ministry

Children’s Tutoring Ministry

This program started in the Spring of 2018 when a local tutoring group was meeting at the Hiram Public Library on Saturday mornings and afternoons.  One of our members (Kevin Billips) noticed them one day while visiting the library.  He approached the lady who was heading up the program and offered to host this at our church building and having our members volunteers as tutors.  Our volunteers range from teenagers to some of the members in their 80s and everywhere in between.

Once the move was made, we began seeing anywhere from 10-24 children each week and playing a small part in their educational development.  Each child goes through an evaluation on their first visit to gauge their reading and math levels so tutors get a good idea of where to begin and at what pace to progress.  Some days we’re able to have one tutor for each 2-3 kids and give them direct attention.  The best thing we are providing these children is face-to-face time with older folks who are willing to donate their own time to help.

This is just one more opportunity for local outreach in the Hiram area and letting our ‘light shine’ in the hearts of children in need and giving them the hopes of a better life and more opportunities to succeed.
