Rock, fortress, deliverer, rescuer, shield,
horn of salvation, and stronghold (rock2,
actually, since the psalmist—I am looking at
Psalm 18 right now, by the way—twice
describes God as his rock). God is the source
of our deliverance, and he is the author of our
hope. God is protector of the innocent, healer
of the wounded, savior of the lost, and master
of the storm. God is with us, behind us, and
before us. He defends us from evil. He arms
us for battle. He trains us for action. He
prepares us for mission. God leads us to
victory. And what a victory it is!
By the power of God’s word, God
triumphs. The world has no hold on our God.
Our culture cannot remove God from his
throne. Friends, family, neighbors,
acquaintances, enemies—none can change
who and what our God is. No one is equipped
to negate his presence. There is no hostile act
or activity in the universe that will move our
great God from his purposes, or from his care
for his people.
By the power of his word, God triumphs.
None can approach his majesty. No one is
competent to comprehend his greatness. The
vastness of his power is unknowable. The
extent of his love is incomprehensible. There
is no other God besides this God.
By the power of his word, God triumphs.
And you and I, along with all of humanity,
have been invited into the life of this
unfathomable God.
By the power of his word. Wow. Just wow.
