But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”
We sometimes hear people speak of what is called their “bucket list.” A bucket list is effectively a wish list—things that we may want to see or do or otherwise experience before we die. It is interesting to hear what is on the list of other people. Often the same things appear over and over again, but there is occasionally something on a list that strikes us as odd or unusual. Regardless, such a list consists of things that we never thought we would be able to do, or of things that we imagined our eyes would never see.
As followers of Christ, we are privileged to be people of a promise that guarantees we will behold and enjoy a life that defies our ability to comprehend. God has assured his people that he is preparing for us a forever life that is far beyond even our wildest imagination. Jesus Christ confirmed this promise to his disciples in John 14, telling them there that he was going away to prepare for his followers a place. He described it as a dwelling in the house of the Father. What a dwelling that will be!
The blessings we receive as the people of God are not reserved only for some future, unknown time. We also enjoy his favor and joys right here and now. Because Christ has rescued us from sin and death, we have the real experience of enjoying full life right now. Although events and circumstances may not always be ideal in this world, the confidence that we have in our Savior means that, by the power of the Spirit that lives in us, we are having a life that is real and blessed.
